Say ‘Goodbye’ to Overwhelm
in Your Home with Holistic Design
In a world full of advice about how to live your “best life,” it’s easy to feel like you’re failing. Everywhere we turn, there are rules — tiny habits that promise to make us healthier, happier, and more grounded so we can live our truest and most beautiful life. I’m sure you’ve fallen victim to the drink warm lemon water, hit 10,000 steps, meditate, journal, stretch, and stay away from screens before bed advice.
But when all those little rules stack up, they become a mountain that feels impossible to climb. These ‘tiny’ wellness habits have parallels in the design world that can make creating a beautiful and intentional home feel heavy with expectations that might not even fit your lifestyle.
My goal is to help you cut through the noise with holistic design practices that will help you create a space that feels like a sanctuary — without adding more to your to-do list.

How Overwhelm is Impacting You and Your Home
Your home should support you, not stress you out.
But often, the pressure to have a perfectly designed, always clean home mirrors the overwhelming expectations we face in other areas of life. If your space feels cluttered or disjointed, it’s not always just a design issue — it might be a reflection of how overwhelmed you might be feeling in general, in addition to needing systems that support your habits and lifestyle. We’ve also been taught that clutter and having a somewhat messy home is a moral failing which causes us to say things like ‘Sorry my house is a mess!’ when our closest friends come for a visit.
These societal constructs run deep. But the brilliant thing is we can work to change our mindset around home. Who wants to live in a showroom anyway?
My Trauma-Informed Holistic Design Approach
A key part of my philosophy is acknowledging that your story and experiences shape how you live.
I encourage slow, intentional decisions that honour your unique needs. I’ve noticed that the design world doesn’t often offer solutions that honour trauma, neurodivergence, or disabilities which means that huge areas of the population are left out. We should be able to feel safe, supported, and celebrated within the walls of our home which is why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to design.
You are the true expert on your life and your home, and my role is to guide and support you in creating a space that aligns with who you are. This isn’t about following trends or achieving perfection—it’s about designing a home that feels like you.
Start with the Next Right Thing
Let’s start small.
1. Focus on what matters most: Instead of trying to tackle everything at once, choose one area of your home that feels the most overwhelming and start there. For example, clearing off your kitchen counters can create an immediate sense of calm. My favourite first step when I’m feeling overwhelmed is to gather my daily essentials in my ‘house purse‘ so I always have what I need on hand.
2. Declutter with intention: Let go of items that don’t serve you anymore. Ask yourself: Does this add to my sense of peace, or is it just taking up space? Sometimes this step can be a little hard, so I recommend calling a friend or inviting someone over to body double and share the experience with you. Making decisions sometimes feels lighter when we have someone by our side.
3. Layer in comfort: Create one cozy corner (without buying anything new) that can serve as a safe space for you to rest, journal, read, play video games, or even just zone out. Add elements that make your space feel warm and inviting — like a cozy throw, a favourite candle, or a meaningful photograph. These small touches can make a big impact on how you feel in your home, even if it’s just one corner that you’ve started with.
Let’s Re-Define ‘Perfect’
The perfect home isn’t spotless or filled with the latest trends.
It’s a space where you feel safe, supported, and truly yourself. If you’re ready to start this journey, I invite you to join me in embracing a more intentional, holistic approach to design.
