I’ve spent the last year re-evaluating nearly every aspect of my life.
What started out as needing to take a step back from work due to burnout (honestly, at this point, the eldest-daughter-virgo-burnout-pipeline memes are laughing at me) turned into a year of re-learning what it means to feel at home.
I’ve always believed that our homes have the potential to change our lives. I know that my home certainly has.
My home has held me through the toughest and the most joyful moments of the last five years.
She’s inspired me to go after new passions like growing flowers. She’s taught me how to watch the sky. She’s allowed me to play with colour, to make design mistakes, and to practice patience.
My home has taught me how to live my life with open arms so I can be a safe space for anyone who needs a refuge from the world. How to providing a warm welcome, shelter from the storm, or even just a cup of tea.
My home is my greatest resource, my deepest truth, and my way to practice how I want to walk through the world so that when I open my front door, I know how to be Rowan.
Over the past year, I’ve encountered many versions of myself, and I’m working towards learning about all the little Rows of my past.
With this big step forward of opening up my design studio, I can feel all of us take a deep breath — or in seven-year-old Row’s case, she’s probably twirling around in delight in her clip-clop shoes.
